Profiling Air Quality over Baltimore - UMBC Monitoring of Atmospheric Pollution (UMAP)

UMAP Instruments Figure

Building off experiments which have been conducted at UMBC since 1995 and augmented by a major NASA grant, the UMBC Monitoring of Atmospheric Pollution (UMAP) project is designed to provide a three-dimensional evaluation of the aerosol pollution environment over Baltimore. Combining ground based sampling which measures the microphysical and bulk properties of the aerosols at the surface on the UMBC campus with profile measurements with lidars operating at a number of wavelengths, UMBC is in a unique position to understand the radiative aerosol properties which are seen by satellite sensors passing over the city. In the figure above, the UMBC instruments are shown and are described in the links on the left.
