The Santa Ana winds are still blowing the plumes in southern California towards the west over L.A. and San Diego.
Yet, smoke must be entraining eastward. There is a large pocket of smoky haze over much of the southwest, particularly over the four corner region. Also looks like there is a big fire southeast of Salt Lake City.
This plume is passing over terrain that MODIS has trouble distinguishing AOD, so the IDEA site does not have good results. It is also right in the middle of two EPA regions, which is what the IDEA site splits into. A case of geopolitical boundaries versus natural events.
Just clouds in the eastern U.S., but that smoke may be headed our way.
