UMBC is a participant in the INTEX-NA field exercise currently underway. During this exercise UMBC will be making ground-based LIDAR measurements of aerosol profiles, AOD, and water vapor profiles. As a part of our analysis, comparisons with MODIS and GASP AOD's will be made. UMBC will also be collecting FTIR data as a part of the exercise.
As a part of INTEX several overflights of the mid-Atlantic region by the NASA DC8 are planned. The first of these is planned for this afternoon. The filed flight path is shown as an overlay on one of today's GASP plots of aerosol depth. At the time of this post, the GASP AOD is low in the mid-Atlantic. The gray areas in the plot indicate the location of clouds, and, as expected, it is fairly cloudy here.
