INTEX: Smoke in southwest U.S.

A smoke plume in the southwest US can be seen in this RGB MODIS Terra image on the bottom right corner. The adjacent picture is the same image using bands 2 and 7.

The same plume can be identified on the image below on the bottom right. Its average AOD is 0.8.

On this NOAA-GASP image, the same smoke plume can be seen located to the northwest of Texas. To the northeast, especially in Maryland, it is cloudy and hazy with an AOD averaging 0.5.

Most of the stations in the northeast and some scattered sites in the southeast and southwest, have an AQI which is said to be moderate. The rest of the country has a relatively good air quality index.
