INTEX: Clear skies

Very clear across most of the U.S. today due to an unusually chilly cold front for August (record low temperatures in the Baltimore-DC area). The exception was some lingering haze in the southeast. (Note that the western MODIS image below is from Aqua and the eastern image is from Terra.)

AOD was very low in the MODIS AOD images from the IDEA site, except the haze in the southeast.

The NOAA GASP AOD product did not pick up the southeast haze or the clear skies very well and was noisy at the cloud edges.

The EPA AirNow site had low concentrations of PM2.5 across most of the U.S., with a couple higher readings in southern California. No evidence of haze in the MODIS image of southern California, so it is likely localized.
