News reports have indicated that many people are arriving to the polls to vote {msnbc.msn.com - (story archived on the blog(pdf))}. But who will win and what impact will the future president have on improving our air quality? Our Air quality has been gradually improving over the years. The Clean Air Act has been instrumental in this process {EPA-OAR & EPA-Clean Air}. Many have criticized Bush's record and initiatives on air pollution suggesting that Kerry has a stronger stance on air quality issues. But some researchers suggest that our air quality will continue to improve regardless of who takes office. Jonathan H. Adler a professor of environmental and constitutional law at Case Western Reserve University explains, “contrary to claims that the environment is under siege, these trends have continued under President Bush. Emissions of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulates were all lower in 2003 than in 2000, and there is every reason to expect this trend to continue regardless of who sits in the White House for the next four years.” {The Philadelphia Inquirer - (story archived on the blog(pdf))}. A nice comprehensive article written by Lara Jill Rosenblith further discusses the candidates initiatives on clean air.
Don't forget to Vote! ;-)
