Today we noticed that there was visual brownish crud in the boundary layer over Baltimore, indicated by the magenta arrow.
The source of most of this pollution was most likely coming from the steel mill in sparrows point, located towards the east part of Baltimore (in magenta). Near the ground the pollution headed away from Baltimore, practically obscuring the key bridge (in green) from view. The key bridge is approximately 20 km from UMBC. Higher up in the atmosphere, however, we see the plume headed towards the city. Additionally, there appears to be some transport of aerosols into the area from non local sources (red).
