There was a lingering story on the blogs about 20 oil rigs being missing and one being on fire (story archived on the blog) in the Gulf after Katrina passed through. This doesn't seem to match the information from MODIS.
Nikisa noted that the IDEA image shows some lingering haze over Louisiana. MODIS QKM sees this in the Terra image from today. But yesterday's AQUA image doesn't show any fires offshore Louisiana. It is very clear of clouds in this image. The fire on the oil rig must be small or a misreport.
