Unhealthy AQI in Taos, Fires in Southeast

Saturday saw moderate PM2.5 concentrations in the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and in California. Conditions in the Midwest and Northeast are due to an approaching low pressure system. A very high AQI measurement was seen in Northern New Mexico near Taos. Ground based PM2.5 measurements there reached "Unhealthy" to "Very Unhealthy" levels. I was unable to see any haze or smoke on the satellite images in the area.

The MODIS Terra image shows haze mixed with clouds over Florida and the Gulf likely due to local fires as Nikisa mentioned yesterday (see HMS map).
