Moderate AQI in the South

Local hazy/smoky conditions are likely responsible for the moderate AQI reported in the Southern portion of the U.S. (also refer to IDEA MODIS AOD). The rest of the nation has good air quality (PM2.5 < 15.0 ug/m3).

AOD remains elevated around the Great Lakes Region and Canada (refer to IDEA AOD). The reflective nature of snow and ice (bright surface) are likely responsible. However, possible dust transported from Asia may also be a contributing factor. Please refer to previous posts on the Smog Blog and the latest discussion on the IDEA website for further details. More information will be provided as it becomes available; stay linked to the blog.
