The image on the left is of Baltimore, showing that it is very clear at the surface and nary a cloud in the sky. The image on the left is a picture looking West from UMBC near sunset, with two fingers blocking out the sun. This image shows there was quite a large peak of forward scattering around the sun, indicating that there was a significant aerosol load in the sky. Perhaps the lidar can shed some light on this (pun intended) . . . .
