Clear Baltimore and Aerosol Sunset

The image of Baltimore (left) shows it was clear at the surface today. A brief brush fire (right) broke out near the Key Bridge around 5:00 EST, putting off a lot of black smoke for a short period of time. The smoke was not seen in the lidar data.

These two images are following up yesterday's pictures of the forward scattering lobe seen around the sun. The image on the left shows the large amount of forward scattering around the sun. The image on the right is similar, however a pair sunglasses were inserted in front of the camera to attenuate the light. In this picture some structure can be seen in the region around the sun, due to the fact that the aerosols are not uniform.

We can also see some of the aerosol structure in the beautiful yellow sunset today.
