Smoke in the West

It is really windy today, which probably contributes to the "good" air quality (AQI 21 for PM2.5) in Baltimore MD (EPA AirNow). The AQ is "moderate" in southern California. The PM2.5 air quality in Bakersfield is 60 which suggests a fine particulate concentration of 20 ug/m3.

Some of the southwestern smoke mentioned yesterday is still visible in today's MODIS true color images. It is also possible to see some fires and smoke plumes in the northwest. Notice that there is some grayish light plume mixed with clouds over Arizona, Nevada and California. Could it be a mixture of smoke and cloud?
