Air quality conditions in California deteriorated today, with many monitors reaching unhealthy concentrations (code red and code orange, peak at Bakersfield at 74 ug/m3). The prediction for tomorrow is more code red unhealthy conditions. The MODIS Terra image is interesting, since the swath crossed California. So, the right hand side is about an hour and a half before the left hand side. It is possible to see how the cloud-free skies and haze in the central valley transitioned in 90 minutes to the streaky clouds we often see during haze events.
