Light haze in southeast, midwest, and SoCal

As spring arrives, there was light haze and moderate air quality conditions found in several places in the U.S. today. The southeast had some haze due to local fires. The upper midwest had some visible haze, but I think the MODIS aerosol optical depth in the region may be a little overstated.

The fine particle concentrations were elevated (AIRNow image on the left). Southern California had streaky clouds and haze (see MODIS true color image, right), with at least one fine particle monitor reaching unhealthy levels.
