Beautiful cloud features

For those of you who like clouds, we have two interesting features today mixed in with our fine particle pollution. First, all the fires in the southeast continued (note the big fires in Georgia). Haze from the past few days seemed to produce a long line of smoky fat streaky clouds streaming off the Carolina coasts.

On the opposite coast, the fine particle concentrations were moderate and a very thin layer of haze can be seen in the cloudfree area off southern California (MODIS Terra image from RapidFire). But just as interesting are the Von Kármán vortex and other beautiful cloud features around the islands off the coast of California and Mexico. RapidFire has a 250 m high resolution version of this image as well.
