Unhealthy air quality in Florida due to fires in Georgia
The smoke from the fires in Georgia intensified today. Florida received much of the smoke, visible by MODIS over the entire pennisula and over the eastern Gulf of Mexico. You can also see the rotation of tropical depression Andrea on the Atlantic side. Aerosol optical depths were over 1.0 and fine particle concentrations were well into the unhealthy range, with 1-hour peaks over 250 ug/m3 in Naples and Davie, Florida (according to the Florida DEP).
