Hot, Humid and Hazy

Hot, humid, and hazy weather has prevailed since late Sunday in Baltimore, as reported by Jill, Nikisa and Kamonayi, in their posts for July 8-9. Winds continue to transport moisture and pollutants into the Mid-Atlantic. Hourly PM 2.5 concentrations in the range of 22.2.4 to 52.6.1 ug/m3 [AQI Levels: 73 (Moderate)-124 (Unhealthy)] were recorded at Maryland's Department of the Enviroment Oldtown site in Baltimore during ELF's operation. Cirrus clouds, as shown in the backscatter plot, advected above 12km between 4:00-16:00 UTC. Comments made for today's observations regarding aerosols please refer to the extinction plot. A residual layer extending from 1-2 km (yellow and aqua counts) can be observed advecting over ELF between 4:00-16:00 UTC. The boundary layer began to rise at 12:00 UTC, an extended up to 2 km until 23:00 UTC. Scattering near the ground (yellow counts) prevailed from this time until the end of the observations.
