The smoky haze that had been over the eastern U.S. has blown off over the Atlantic and conditions are significantly improved. This afternoon there was some smoke lingering over South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming (left MODIS image). And a large plume of smoke from the fires in southern California still seems to be going strong (right).

It is not air quality related, but here is what I thought was an interesting looking 'stormlette' over Oklahoma today. And, much larger, here is Hurricane Dean pounding Mexico this afternoon.
