Ah, relief from hot humid conditions! Say goodbye to haze and clouds. Morning webcam images from Washington D.C (10:30am) and the UMBC ALG webcam (10:55am) show relatively clear skies. National Park Service, Nature & Science, reported a visual range of 160 miles (view from the Netherlands Carillon looking East).
We can use Koschmeider’s relationship (visual range = 3.91 / extinction), to calculate extinction from the UMBC Physics building. Thus, assuming a visual range of 26km (distance from campus to Francis Scott Key Bridge, which is clearly visible this morning), the extinction coefficient is around 150 Mm^-1.
Also, PM2.5 (~9.0 ug/m3) and ozone (2 ppbv) are in the "good" range (code green).
