Air Quality Action Day for several states in the Northeast
New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine are having action days. Fine particulate matter concentrations are expected to reach “moderate” to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” levels. Please refer to EPA AIRNow for further details on the description of an “action day”.
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) has released a press statement (archived) regarding the air quality. Pollution from local sources (i.e. residential wood burning) along with transport from neighboring states are likely responsible for the elevated levels.
