Strong haze in central California, light haze in the southeast

Central California was very hazy with high fine particle concentrations hitting code orange in Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield, as seen in the MODIS true color image on the left and the AIRNow monitor map on the right. 24 hour average fine particle concentrations were over 55 ug/m3 in Fresno, and conditions are expected to be worse tomorrow.

Light haze continued in the southeast U.S., as seen in the below MODIS true color and aerosol optical depth data, likely due to the many fires in the region. Quite a bit of smoky haze can be seen over the Gulf of Mexico as well.
