And you probably think I'm talking about basketball. Silly. It's the final four of university chess and UMBC is hosting the President's Cup tournament. The winner will be US collegiate champion. UMBC is in (of course) with UT-Dallas, NYU, Miami-Dade. In the first round this morning UMBC took four of four matches against NYU. Go, Retrievers. They're in tougher this evening against Miami-Dade. And, oh yes, there are also a couple of basketball games today.
Some areas of moderate haze can be found in southern California and in Iowa.

Fires are replete throughout the south, Mexico and Central America (from the NOAA HMS page) and in Aqua MODIS this afternoon, a band of haze appears from Kansas to Nebraska.

At the buzzer, Kansas did come back to win. UMBC had a tough night winning two, drawing one, and losing one. That's 6 1/2 wins out of eight today. Tomorrow, our long-term rivals, UT-Dallas, at 9:00 am. Woof. Get some sleep, Dawgs.
