Moderate Air Quality and Haze still lingers

More surface monitors are recording moderate air quality (source: EPA AIRNow). Haze, however, is not clear in today’s MODIS images; clouds are blocking our view. Skies are hazy and cloudy over the Gulf region (near southern Texas- left image). Some of this “haze” may be smoke aerosols transported from the South. Refer to the NOAA NWS vertical smoke map (right image); gray areas indicate the presence of smoke. Also, lingering smoke from local fires is likely over the Midwest/Central U.S., but as mentioned this is hard to decipher in today’s satellite imagery.
