Several Fires Across the Country

Today’s air quality blog is all about fire and smoke. There are many fires with significant smoke plumes across the nation. Those most noticeable are shown in the MODIS images below (source: UW MODIS Today & UW MODIS Direct). The first major plume is identifiable in California (top image). Other fires are present in the Central U.S. (middle left); the MODIS AOD (middle right) related to these smoke plumes is displayed in today’s IDEA image. Several fires are also present on the East Coast. Today’s HMS product (last image on the bottom) identifies all hotspots and smoke plume locations. Air quality conditions are moderate in some of the regions where smoke/haze was identified (source: EPA AIRNow).
