Code Yellow in the Northeast, Great Lakes, and California, Fires in Kansas

Across the eastern U.S particulate air quality improved in the southeast and was mostly good, while moderate air quality continues across the northeast. In the Great Lakes states (primarily in Michigan), air quality worsened and was in the moderate range. In California, the southern half of the San Joaquin valley, and the LA region were also in the moderate range although haze was not visible in the MODIS imagery. In Northern Utah, the PM2.5 AQI reached the unhealthy range. The two maps below show the PM2.5 AQI and MODIS Aqua RGB in the background.

Meanwhile, ozone levels were also in the moderate range across the northeast (left image). There were many fires in Kansas and Nebraska. Notice the plumes northeast of Wichita in this MODIS terra RGB (right image).
