Haze in the north-central U.S continues, moderate AQ in the Great Lakes

We continue to follow the haze in the central U.S., which is still visible over Nebraska and South Dakota in today's MODIS Terra RGB (below).

The MODIS Terra RGB (left) again here shows hazy conditions around the Great lakes. The PM2.5 AQI (Airnow) was in the moderate range throughout the region, including the cities of Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, and Buffalo. The MODIS AOD retrieval also captured this region of thick aerosols (left).

I flew into Toronto from Halifax tonight and there was considerable smoke at about 20 kft. It was so hazy over Toronto that you could barely see the ground from that height.

From aircraft altitude the smoke was quite brown in a shallow layer.
