A large frontal system has brought precipitation and heavy cloud cover to the East; skies are cloud free in parts of the West (top left image- credit ). The top right image is the NOAA NWS radar map; regions with higher reflectivity signify intense precipitation. Surface air quality conditions are mostly good across the country (left image). Few sites in the East and Midwest have code yellow (moderate) conditions. Additionally, moderate fine particulate matter levels (15.5 < PM2.5- ug/m3 < 40) continued in Southern California and Utah (source: EPA AIRNow). Aerosols from local sources are likely responsible for conditions in California (see yesterday’s post). Ozone levels (right image) are also moderate in parts of the West; the air quality index improved somewhat as the day progressed.
