The U.S is still being impacted by smoke. Today's NOAA HMS analysis (left) shows a large band of smoke across the central U.S. The MODIS Terra AOD was high over the Dakotas and Nebraska (right). An AOD of 0.5 or above is still high for the relatively clean north-central U.S, but as Nikisa pointed out, surface air quality is good, again indicative that these aerosols are above the boundary layer (i.e, not affecting fine particle concentrations at the surface).
