Florida, Southern California and Salt Lake City are today's stories

Florida still continues to show moderate PM2.5 concentrations and the flow indicates that it is coming from Central America (biomass burning) as well as the local fires that were prevalent there this week. The left panel shows the NOAA Hazard Mapping System (HMS) analysis of where the smoke is coming from and there is a combination of transported smoke and Florida fires. The right panel shows four of the named incidents in Florida.

We are also seeing elevated PM2.5 in southern California and unhealthy for sensitive groups in Salt Lake City. The PM2.5 is not apparent in the MODIS imagery, but the NOAA Air Quality Guidance forecast is showing the season's start for ozone.
