Fires in Alabama & Louisiana; some haze....

Fires were spotted in Alabama and Louisiana (left - UW MODIS Today). Smoke/haze mixed with clouds is also visible over the Gulf. The AOD (right - NOAA UMBC GASP IDEA) is elevated in this region and also over most of the Central United States.

Amy wrote a wonderful post yesterday, which discussed the beginning of the ozone season. So I thought it would be suitable for me to post today’s map (source: EPA AIRNow). Ozone levels (left) are elevated (mostly moderate) in California and the Southeast. Fine particulate (PM2.5) matter concentrations (right) are also elevated in these regions.
