Moderate air quality conditions became more widespread today and several states in the eastern half of the continental U.S had predominantly code yellow monitors. A few monitors in northwestern Georgia reached the orange (unhealthy range) for PM2.5 (right image, EPA AIRNow PM2.5 AQI). It also looks hazy in the MODIS Terra RGB (top image) over Georgia and Alabama.
The NOAA NESDIS HMS analysis reports smoke over Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma, but it was not visible over Texas in the MODIs RGBs (top image) except perhaps a little bit of smoke over western Texas. Amy reported smoke over that region yesterday. Meanwhile, California was relatively haze free but ozone did reach the code yellow and orange range at scattered locations in the southern part of the state (bottom image, EPA AIRNow ozone AQI).
