Surface air quality (EPA AIRNow) varies from good to moderate across the country. Smoke/haze is also visible over Canada and Lake Superior (top image; UW MODIS Today). Most of this pollution is coming from fires in Canada. Today’s NOAA HMS map (middle image) indicates the likely source and distribution of smoke. I am also including the surface smoke map (modeled) from the NOAA NWS website (last image). Also, smoke from fires in Mexico may still be lingering in the South.
Skies are hazy over the Pacific (near California) as well. The AOD is elevated where smoke/haze was identified. The aerosol load is particularly intense (unity in some places) over Lake Superior.
