It’s not officially summer but it will certainly feel like it today. Prepare for a hot, humid, and hazy day! PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) concentrations are already high (code orange) in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. Below are webcam images from local sites. Top images are from the NPS Washington D.C site. The view is from the Netherlands Carillon Looking East. The left image (visual range ~ 15miles) was taken at 10:30am today and the right gives an idea of a clean day in conjunction with a map out of the landmarks. PM2.5 is 46 ug/m3 (orange) at the NPS D.C. site and ozone is 12 ppb (good). Also, refer to the Baltimore, Maryland webcam images from the CAMNET site. Skies are also quite hazy there (10:30am) and PM2.5 is in the code orange (~52.1 ug/m3) range. We will likely have code red conditions (EPA AIRNow) before the day is over. Not sure what this means or what you should do? Please refer to the AIRNow site.
