Code Orange in the Northeast & Fire continues in North Carolina

Skies continue to be smoky/hazy over the East. Most of the smoke, visible in today’s Aqua MODIS image (left), is likely from the fire in North Carolina. Refer to the HMS product (right) for further detail on fire and smoke. Also, the USDA MODIS Active Fire Mapping Program has further information on fire statistics. Today’s GASP animated map shows the intensity of aerosols on the East.

The air quality (EPA AIRNow) is elevated along most of the East and particularly high (code orange conditions) in the Northeast.
