Beijing Olympics: Looking at the haze with lidar

As Jill pointed out two days ago in her post, we are going to be paying some attention to China during the Olympic Games. We were able to pull two cross-sections from the CALIPSO lidar mission over China from yesterday's daytime (left map, upper panel) and nighttime (right map, lower panel). For reference, Beijing is at 40^o N, 116^oE.
