Bonus Feature: International

Beijing had very nice air quality today (8/22/08). The visible RGB shows little haze except on the coast and the MODIS Aerosol Optical Depth that we are processing shows very low AOD's across much of the north of China.

UPDATE:8/23/08

The sun rose today in China and now the Terra and Aqua overpasses are in. In the image below, you can see that the Terra (10:40AM/2:40UTC) overpass and the Aqua (1:55PM/5:55UT) overpasses show increasing haze to the east of Beijing. The flow (all levels) however is still coming from the northwest (see the Aqua overpass image). So Beijing's air pollution will remain acceptable for at least the end of the games. But we also see that the northwest flow is bringing pollution sources from the east of Beijing into the China sea.
