The ridge of haze I commented on yesterday has deepened. Ozone (left image) is still unhealthy for sensitive groups in Cleveland and Cincinnati. PM2.5 is elevated to the moderate level throughout Ohio and southern Canada(right image)

The haze is quite visible on today's MODIS RGB image from Terra in the morning. The synoptic chart from the Canadian Weather Office confirms NOAA's pressure analysis. There is a weak ridge running through Ohio and just about nothing else happening in terms of frontal movement in the eastern US. This is one reason that Fay is backing slowly into the south and the ridge of high pressure is not moving eastward. We are stalled and this doesn't bode well for the air quality in the early part of the week. The ridge may cross the Appalachians later today and if so, things may loosen up.
