A study from the Havard School of Public Health by Antonella Zanobetti and Joel Schwartz examined the health effects of both fine and coarse particles in 112 Cities across the US showing an increase in mortality from all causes due to PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 microns) exposure. Health effects such as Cardiovascular Disease and respiratory diseases were examined for 10 µg/m3 increases. The health risks are smaller for PM10 (particles between 2.5 and 10 microns) than for PM2.5 yet higher than previously thought.
