Smoke from Canada and Mexico fires
Today AIRNow PM2.5 map (top, left) shows a moderate AQI in the Midwest around the Great Lakes stretching south towards South Carolina in the afternoon. Ozone levels were mostly good throughout the day with some moderate levels peak in North Dakota and Saskatchewan, Canada where the fires continue. An abnormality in this map can be observed in the end of the day over Alabama towards Mississippi border where ozone levels reach up to Very Unhealthy levels (Purple code) and vanish to good levels again in a matter of few hours.
HMS fire map (top, right) shows persistent smoke over Canada and also some fires in Northwest Mexico, Panhandle, Florida and Arizona. MODIS Terra true color images allowed us to observe some of the smoke.
In the middle row on the left we see the Canada fires smoke and on the right the Mexican fires. And in the last row by the left we see the smoke over the Gulf of Mexico coming from Florida and Mexico/Central America fires and finally on the right hand side is MODIS Terra AOD showing higher values over Canada, Mexico and South Carolina.
