Smoke from fires is apparent over Alaska and Canada. Smoke, mentioned by Meloe earlier this week, is now over the Northwest U.S. and extends into the Midwest. The HMS team provides a map (top left image) depicting fire and smoke. Also, read the text product which accompanies this image.
The air quality (top right image; EPA AIRNow) is moderate in the Southeast. Haze from local sources is probably the primary contributor. Dust transported overseas may be contributing to the aerosol load as well. Refer to today’s satellite images (bottom left,Terra MODIS & bottom right, Aqua MODIS) from UW MODIS Direct for a graphical depiction of all smoke and haze described.
