International: Borneo burning

The fires continue to burn in Indonesia and Malaysia, increasing in range and intensity from last week. Long smoke plumes can be seen flowing off the northwest coast of Borneo in the MODIS Terra image (left). The regional haze map from the Singapore Weather Information Portal indicates numerous hot spots and areas of moderate and dense haze (right).

Note the wind arrows in the hot spot image off the south coast of China. That's Typhoon Morakot going right over Taiwan and about the hit China.
