Moderate to Unhealthy air quality in the Midwest / East US

Today the air quality in the Midwest and East of US was poorer than yesterday with unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups in Ohio all day. Moderate conditions were predominant in most of the East and also in California as can be seen in the AIRNow AQI map (left). Ozone levels here.

The fire map from HMS at NOAA still shows smoke from Alaska** and also from South British Columbia fires (right). There were also reports on Arizona and California fires and dust transport across the Atlantic as discussed by Nikisa yesterday.

The AOD map from MODIS Terra shows higher values over Canada and Northwest US and also over the Atlantic (below).

And exploring the regions that showed higher AOD with today's MODIS Terra true color images we see the smoky/hazy conditions respectively:

**Just as a quick note there is an update on the August 5th, as a late post after Meloe's entry, about some smoke from the Alaska fires that could be seen over UMBC.
