Smoke from a wildfire burning in southern California blanketed a significant part of the Los Angeles County today (Report by Los Angeles Times). The PM2.5 readings have increased considerably during the day in downtown Los Angeles reaching levels of 100 µg/m3 (top left).
Today's MODIS AQUA AOD map continues to show high AOD values over a portion of the Atlantic, East of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas (top right). This aerosol plume is closer to the coast than the previous days. Haze is clearly visible on today's MODIS AQUA RGB image over the area (bottom, left). High levels of AOD are also recorded over Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Illinois.
Ozone levels (bottom, right) increased during the day from "Good" to "Moderate" conditions mostly in California and Texas. "Unhealthy for sensitive groups" conditions are reached by the end of the day in Texas. Some "Moderate" ozone levels can also be seen scattered over the eastern part of the US.
