Unchanged air quality in the Midwest

The air quality has not changed much across the nation. Moderate AQI (EPA AIRNow) still remains over the Midwest and parts of the East. Transported smoke coupled with local pollution sources is likely responsible for the elevated concentrations. Clouds and haze are visible in the MODIS RGB image (left; UW MODIS Direct). Refer to the AOD map (right; IDEA) for a better understanding of the aerosol density.
