Good Air Quality Continues for the U.S

Good air quality conditions continued today. Air Now's National Air Quality Summary reports Code Green (Healthy) and Code Yellow (Moderate) air quality index (AQI) levels throughout the nation. Code Yellow AQI levels were reported in the deep south part of the country, Pennslyvania, California, southern tip of Texas, northern Idaho, and Nevada (below right). The MODIS Terra AOD map (below left, IDEA) shows low AOD values throughout the country.

NOAA's Hazard Mapping System (HMS) reports a long, narrow patch of smoke over Manitoba, Canada. HMS also reports a small patch of smoke over the southern part Arizona in the region over Phoenix. The MODIS Active Fire Mapping Program's large incident map reports several fires in the northwest part of the nation, primarily in Montana and Orgegon, here.
