Today good air quality was still dominant in US with exception to San Joaquin Valley, in California which is still under hazy conditions as expected (see Amy's post from yesterday).
Below (left) we see AIRNow combined AQI loop for California region showing code red (Unhealthy levels) in Bakersfield and code orange (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) in Fresno/Visalia region. PM2.5 accounted for the most part of the AQI as can be seen here. AOD was indeed a little higher over the San Joaquin Valley (MODIS Aqua: right)

In MODIS Terra true color image we could see the haze this time and just to show some contrast between a clean valley and a hazy one, below is today's image by the left and a clean day by the right (overlaid by today's AQI).
