Air quality improves in California and worsens in the Midwest; Dust Storm in Arizona
Comparing today's air quality to yesterday's we see an improvement in California which showed good levels for most of the day but started to get into the moderate range again in the evening. Persisting moderate levels of PM2.5 lingered over Utah, Louisiana, Oregon and Midwest today. In the morning Salt Lake City and a portion of Idaho reached Unhealthy levels for sensitive groups. Haze was observed in Salt Lake City today as can be seen in this meteorology web-cam at Time-Science.com.
As the evening approached, air quality started to worsen again the West and also in the Southeast.

In Arizona, a dust storm caused 2 fatalities on Interstate 10 close to Picacho. Pictures of the dust storm can be seen here. In today's MODIS Aqua true color image we can see the dust over Wagner Basin (between Baja California and Southwest Arizona) which showed higher AOD values.
