Special Feature: Grimsvotn Volcano Erupts in Iceland

We got a message from Scott Bachmeier of CIMSS who has posted a blog post on the eruption of the Grimsvötn volcano in Iceland. Here is the link to the CIMSS Satellite Blog

I post two images from Terra MODIS and Aqua MODIS of the eruption at 13:00 UTC and 14:50 UTC:

There is significant SO₂ in this plume. OMI's images from today at 11:49 and 15:04 UTC:

News reports from the Guardian are quoting forecasters as predicting that this will not affect European airspace but might affect northern Scotland.
