Moderate AQI in South states; Fires in Mississippi Valley

Moderate PM2.5 levels were reached in different states in south US. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi Alabama and Florida read Moderate levels during the day. In addition, Moderate and Unhealthy levels for sensitive groups were reached in California (top left). Ozone levels were good throughout most of the country except in Texas where moderate levels were read (top right).

HMS reported several fires detected in the states previously mentioned with moderate PM2.5 levels (bottom left). A large area of thin smoke stretches across the northern Gulf of Mexico and extends across Florida along a frontal boundary before mixing with general cloudiness off the South Carolina coast. Much of this smoke originated from the fires in southeast Georgia and northeast Florida but smoke could have also come from fires along the Lower Mississippi River Valley yesterday.
Monterrey Aerosol Modeling estimates sulfate over southeast states and coincide with the detected smoke from Florida (bottom right).
